Dr. Kotlow is an excellent dentist. He runs his office a certain way which works well with my family. The children have to be seen in the AM (I believe up to 7)and they go downstairs to their appointment without their parents. Up to age 3 is seen in a different room with a parent. I know a lot of parents object to this but I think it works great. My children behave much better for them if I am not there. The waiting room is filled with video games, fish and a train that travels around the room. Downstairs they have TVs and I really don't know what else since i'm not allowed down there :-). He is always up on technology and is very firm with his recommendations. Dr. Kotlow has worked well with my family. He also practices preventative care when it comes to braces.

My daughter is 5 ½ months old. I realized yesterday that all of the sudden breastfeeding is enjoyable for both of us…and that instead of just trying to get through another day, I have no end in sight. I expect we can continue as long as we desire. I first emailed with Dr. Kotlow 4 months ago, he continued to be a support as we tried everything to get my daughter’s tongue tie issues resolved, however, nothing (not even a revision with a local ENT) worked. I decided to make the 7 hour trip to Dr. Kotlow’s office before giving up. It has been almost 3 weeks since Dr. Kotlow performed a second revision on my daughter’s posterior tongue tie (going much deeper than the ENT had), and that combined with craniosacral therapy and suck training has caused her to be able to exclusively breastfeed for the first time since birth. She transferred over 3 ounces directly from the breast yesterday, which is amazing for her. She no longer chokes or cries during feedings, instead she gazes into my eyes…so precious…and enjoyable. Thank you so much for helping us out, Dr. Kotlow, our lives have been changed forever!

As a former Staff Member, and worker at Albany Cerebral Palsy Center, i can testify that Dr. Koslow and Staff give expert care to all children/patients. Hey ?Dr. K. Hope all is well with You and Yours. Do you feel as Old as I do?? Ha Ha! Seriously, your website is top rated. Did you do it yourself or ask your Children to Help You? My Alexander is fine, his front tooth #7 that you helped to replace/Save, is pretty fine also. ((Thanks, again)) Casey, my daughter is married with a 2nd on the way. Third, my 2nd son, Nathan is an Electrical Engineer with EMC2 at Frankin, Mass. I know you both have your brag-sheet, as well, as parents and ... Grandparents? Just thought i would stop in and say hi. And to remark on the outstanding website. Bye, Pat Rivers.

We came from Virginia Beach to get my son and daughters lip and posterior tongue ties lasered. Dr Kotlow is a world renowned expert and I only wanted the best for my children. He was worth the visit! His knowledge and passion is outstanding.
I will always recommend him to others. His work on ties helps mothers who are breastfeeding, great man, great service! My 2.5 year old who had a severe expressive speech delay started talking more after his revision, his speech therapist was amazed. he has gone from only speaking one - two words to a 4 word sentence!

After almost 8 weeks of having ever...
"
After almost 8 weeks of having every problem under the sun with breastfeeding my son, a lactation consultant finally suggested that he might be tongue tied. I researched symptoms online and sure enough we met every symptom I contacted my peditrician so he could recommend someone that could fix the problem that was in network with my insurance due to Dr. Kotlow being an out of network provider so his services would not be covered. My peditrician told me that the surgerywas unnecessary and to wait until my child was two to see if he developed a lisp and until then not to worry about it. I told him about breast feeding problems and he told me to give my breasts a break for 2 weeks and pump. His PA gave me the number to two ENT's that could possibly take care of the tongue tie in case I wanted a second opinion. Well neither ENT could get me in for about 6 weeks. By then I would have given up breast feeding due to all the pain I was experiencing. After thinking about the cost of Dr Kotlow's services, I decided it would be worth it to pay for in order to try and make breast feeding more successful for my baby and me. The office got me in within the week and I am more than pleased with the experience we had. The doctor was pleasant and informative. It turns out my son was severly tongue tied and his latch was so much better right after the procedure. For all you mothers out there that have issues breast feeding and suspect tongue tie, contact this office before you get deferred by your peditrcian that the issue is not necessary. I am happy that I went beyond my peditrician and researched the issue further and found Dr Kotlow. Why should I have waited two years for a problem such as a lisp to develop? Why should I feel like giving up breast feeding due to pain and other issues when they could be addressed and it be a more enjoyable and benficial experience for my son and me? Dr Kotlow helped me realize I did this to benefit not only my son but also myself.

In 3 months, I had every breastfeeding problem you could ever imagine... clogged ducts, blebs, clicking (which was tearing my nipples apart) and thrush. As time went by, I saw no improvement and was in a terrible amount of pain. I thought I had oversupply and was trying to blockfeed to keep my milk under control as my let-down was too powerful. Come to find out, my baby was tongue tied and that's why my breasts weren't draining and it was just creating a multitude of issues. I'm so thankful we could go to Dr. Kotlow to get this corrected. Breastfeeding is painless and enjoyable now! My baby's latch is deeper... so no clogs, blebs, thrush, and no more oversupply. It feels like everything just fell into place after the tongue tie and frenulum were corrected. Dr. Kotlow, thank you so much! You've given my daughter the best gift. Dr. Kotlow is the best... in the world. He's the leading researcher in this field and is passionate about correcting tongue ties and helping women breastfeed successfully. I trust him with my baby and was so happy with his service. We'll have to fly back in the future if we have more babies!

Good morning, Dr. Kotlow! I just wanted to thank you for the seminar that you offered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada last weekend. I attended as a parent, and I'm so grateful for all that I learned. I hope that you've already heard that, because of your seminar, FOUR dentists who attended are now offering laser revisions to infants. It feels like a miracle, seeing as how the week before, our only option was to travel to Albany. Your generosity has helped create real solutions for families on the Canadian prairies. I will share this information with our doctor and the local health region lactation consultant, as well as the new contacts for referrals. So many children and families will be helped by these revisions to have normal breastfeeding experiences. From the bottom of my heart, I THANK YOU!

My daughter was born with both a tongue-tie and a lip-tie. The tongue-tie was caught in the hospital but was not effectively resolved - the lip-tie was missed until she was 5 days old and we saw a lactation consultant who had seen our issues before. She referred us to Dr. Kotlow who immediately saw the problem. Nursing was SO painful for me and frustrating for my daughter. Dr. Kotlow squeezed us in the next day, diagnosed the issue, took her for the 10 minute laser procedure and that day we were finally able to nurse correctly! I only wish I'd gone to him sooner! Thank you, Dr. Kotlow, for the miracle you performed. My baby is now 3 1/2 months old and still exclusively breast fed and we never would have made it without you!

Dr. Kotlow saved my breastfeeding experience with our first child! I happen to be a midwife and had a very difficult month after my daughter was born - first was the pain of breastfeeding by day 2, visits with lactation consultants, mastitis and supplementation due to decreased milk supply. We did get her frenulum clipped but it did not change the situation. By the end of the month, the pain and struggle were too great and I was done with breastfeeding - the only thing left to try was lasering with Dr. Kotlow. I called his office and he invited me in the next day... this was the only thing I had not done and had to do before I quit breastfeeding!! By the third day after the procedure (he released both the tonge and lingual frenulums) breastfeeding was no longer a sobbing/agonizing experience. I was incredulous! My daughter didn't even have a severe case of tongue-tie, in fact it was posterior - especially since she had already had it clipped. This experience allowed me to continue breastfeeding and gave me more of an intimate knowledge to take to my clients who have challenges regarding the same issue. It's been 4 years since my daughter was born and even still I am ever so grateful to Dr. Kotlow for his empathy for breastfeeding mothers and for the resources available on his website.

My toddler has a favorite game: tongue twisters. People can't believe my 2 year old can say things like "Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers" with perfect diction. Doubly amazing given both my dad and my brother had speech impediments and my little guy was born with the mother of all tongue-ties (upper and lower). It was 3 weeks of agony while I tried to nurse him before finding out the problem. When I saw Dr. Kotlow he said, " I can't believe they let you out of the hospital with this." Lucky for me it was almost over.
In the end, I nursed my little guy to 18 months and now he is at the top of his class for language development. When I had my second child, I knew exactly the signs to look for because Dr. Kotlow explained to me clearly how to diagnose it before I left. I only wish I had made the 8 hr. drive down from Canada to have him do the surgery for #2- I went with someone closer who recently started doing laser and it was a mistake. Dr. Kotlow really is the best and well worth the trip wherever you live. My baby was nursing like a champ in the waiting room the day of the release!!

Positive feedback!!! Dr Larry Kotlow revised my 19mo ULT and TT on Feb 4. We had a great experience (he truly is the toddler whisperer) and the LO is doing wonderfully. Nursing has a deeper latch and she nurses longer per session. Eating / Chewing improved immediately. Drinking is still a work in progress (still gags and dribbles but figure she's got a lot to relearn). Sleeping improved (yup, no more sleep apnea like symptoms that were waking her constantly). And, no idea if this is related, but she has started walking like a champ (large motor skills were delayed) - her balance is still off to the left but it was a near overnight improvement). We now see her teeth when she smiles. Upper Lip stretching going very well. Tongue stretching is tough (due to teeth and she dislikes our fingers in her mouth and being held down) and at Dr K's recommendation, we are putting peanut butter behind her two front teeth so she has to raise her tongue and we taught her to play tongue games.

"
we recently had a beautiful baby girl who was unable to latch properly due to two extremely tight frenumulum attachements. I was referred to Dr Kotlow due to his use of the laser ive been a dental hygienist for 7 years and was still hesitant to do this to my newborn even with the knowledge that it needed to be done. Dr Kotlow not only educated us, he made a difficult time easy with his experience and great chair side attitude. This is a very stressful time in a parents life and he made it much easier than i had thought. I highly recommend Dr Kotlow and the laser for this procedure he will put your mind at ease and help with a very important step in parenting.

"
It is not an overstatement to say that Dr. Kotlow saved my son's teeth. I've waited a month and a half since his lip & tongue tie revisions before writing my review because I was nervous it wouldn't help our situation. I was wrong to be nervous. My son's teeth are doing great!
My story started with a very difficult start to breastfeeding. By day 2 we were noticing the effects of a poor latch. By day three, the tenderness gave way to chunks missing from my nipples. Neither the midwives, the hospital staff lactation consultants (two of them), the independent lactation consultant nor his pediatrician (two of them) caught his ties. To be honest, I don't remember any of them checking his mouth. They all kept getting on to me for not letting him open his mouth wide. Now, I know he was doing the best he could with two very tight ties.
I persisted with nursing (we are still going strong at 20 months) and eventually nursing got easier as he grew. However, he was nursing every 45 minutes. All I remember of the early months is nursing. He was constantly falling asleep at the breast. Even at 18 months old, before the revisions, he never slept longer than 2 hours without waking to nurse. My husband even moved to sleeping in the basement because he couldn't function at work with so many wakings at night. It was a problem, but not one that anyone gave me a solution for.
When my son was 16 months, I noticed a plaque spot on one of his top lateral incisors. I immediately took him to our family dentist. He told me to do a better job of brushing and to start using xylitol sprays to deter growth. Two weeks later the decay has spread to all four of his top teeth. I called my dentist back to get him seen again. He said that it was not possible for the decay to spread that quickly. I was probably just noticing some staining. "Don't worry, just bring him for his check up in 5.5 months."
The decay kept getting worse.... quickly. It was horrible to watch. Not liking to feel helpless, I started what turned into a month of solid internet research. Eventually I stumbled upon information on lip ties and had a light bulb moment. Everything I read resonated with our experiences. And, the photos of lip ties proved to me that my son had a Class 3 Lip Tie. The photos of decay caused by lip ties looked exactly like my son's teeth!
So, I started calling every dentist and ENT in my area. The ENT's wouldn't touch my son without general anesthesia. The local dentists looked at me like I was speaking another language when I started talking about tie revisions. I finally found a pediatric dentist 2 hours away who "did revisions all the time." We made our appointment and enthusiastically made our trip to see him. I have never been so insulted or infuriated in my life. The dentist told me my son's ties were not significant and he has seen "much worse." He said I was wrong in my diagnosis and that I could "probably Google myself into believing that bananas cause cancer." He had so and so many years of education and training and who was I to question him. The problem was a defect in my son's enamel. When I pressed that it was only the four teeth and not all of them, he told me to wait and I would see them all start to decay from the enamel defect. His recommendation was to cap all of my son's teeth, in a surgical suite, under general anesthesia!
I cried most of the way home. When I got home, I immediately posted a picture of my son's mouth/teeth to a group I had found on Facebook on the Lip Tie/ Tongue tie issue. Everyone agreed that my son's problem was the lip tie. Dr. Kotlow happened to see my post and contacted me to discuss my son's case. It was so wonderful to be treated with such respect after the previous encounter. I finally found some hope that my son would be able to keep his teeth!
We called Dr. Kotlow's office and took the first opening they had the next week. It was worth every penny we spent on gas (two hour drive to the nearest airport), parking, airfare, taxis, hotel stays, dining out and the procedure itself.
Dr. Kotlow is great with kids! He did a thorough exam of my son and agreed that the lip tie and the tongue tie needed to be revised and that he could laser off the tooth decay. The whole procedure took less than 30 minutes (no general anesthesia) and I could not be happier with the results.
The day after the procedure, my son said the word "sock." Before the revision, he did not have any hard consonant sounds (Dada, mama and hello were all he really said). Now, his speech has exploded. Within a week he had a vocabulary of over 20 words. He was a lot less fussy since he could express himself! He is still nursing, but he is a lot more effective! He now sleeps 4-6 hours in a stretch. A few nights ago he even went 8 hours! My husband can sleep upstairs again! And, best of all, my son's teeth still look great and are decay free!

"
In the past 4 weeks, my (then) 3 week old, 2 1/2 year old and 17 year old have all had tongue/ult ties revised by Dr. Kotlow. All three fantastic experiences, and have all healed beautifully.
My youngest, now 6 weeks old, is nursing almost perfectly. No more clicking, no more biting, and air intake has decreased.
My 17 year old is still only 1 week out, but is healing great, and is working on his speech.
My 2 1/2 year old has me the most excited, though! He had actually lost some of the words he'd been saying just last summer. And had almost all but given up on trying to talk anymore.
But in the past 3 weeks, since his revisions, he's been jabbering nonstop, with some words tucked in here and there. BUT... just 2 days ago he started saying octopus!!!! That's a BIG word for a little guy who never talks. Of course, his version is, "Ock ga muh", but he's TRYING to say it. He's making sounds he's never been able to make before.
But the very best part, was tonight, when he walked into the room, smiled up at me, and clear as a bell said, "Hi Mama!" ? ? ? He has never said Mama before!
Thank you sooooooooo much Dr. Larry Kotlow!!!
